AdTech technology first to treat AFFF effluent on-site
13 February 2010
AdTech wastewater treatment technology has been proven to treat AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) effluent in trials at Williamtown and Amberley RAAF bases.
AFFF is used extensively by fire-fighting crews on air force bases during training exercises and equipment checks. It is mixed with water before use and contains various surfactants - some non-biodegradable, which are toxic to micro-organisms. Water containing AFFF is therefore not suitable for discharge to sewer.
