AdTech Environmental signs new deal with SSDS

AdTech Environmental Pty Ltd (AdTech) has signed a minimum three-year contract with Serco Sodexo Defence Services Limited (SSDS) to provide on-site wastewater treatment services at RAAF Base Williamtown, NSW.

SSDS is a dedicated prime contractor to the Australian Defence Organisation. It is a joint venture company formed in 1993 between two global service support companies: Serco Group - an international service company that offers the management of people, processes, technology and assets - and Sodexo, a world-class integrated facilities management and multi-service organisation.

Initially the new contract will involve the treatment of AFFF contaminated wastewater from Williamtown’s fire fighting operations and training. Previously this waste was transported to Sydney for disposal. SSDS view on-site treatment as a far more environmentally responsible option. It not only reduces their carbon footprint by eliminating transport, it also allows them to maintain a more ‘hands on’ control of the service. On-site treatment is also a far more cost effective solution for Defence.

AdTech has treated millions of litres of similar wastewater for the Defence Department over many years at RAAF Base Amberley and the Army Aviation Training Centre, Oakey, both in South East Queensland. The quality of this treated water is outstanding, the most recent sample returning a COD reading of only 65mg/L. The majority of the treated water is re-used in Base Operations. AdTech looks forward to a long and rewarding partnership with SSDS at RAAF Williamtown and the many other Defence sites using their Garrison Support Services.

AdTech targets aviation industry

In more than 20 years of operation, AdTech Environmental (AdTech) has established an exceptional record for treating highly polluted and toxic waste streams across a range of industries, often to recyclable quality. Increasing outstanding success in treating wastewater from the aviation industry that few, if any other companies can match, has convinced them to now specialise in this niche.

Aviation requires specialist treatment solutions for its unique wastewater problems. AdTech has successfully provided such solutions across air base operations for clients including the Army Aviation Centre, Oakey, Queensland and RAAF Bases at Amberley in Queensland and Williamtown and Richmond in New South Wales.

In particular, AdTech has devised a method of successfully treating wastewater from Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) used in fire fighting training exercises, to re-use quality. AFFF frequently contains hydrocarbon-based surfactants such as sodium alkyl sulphate and fluoro-surfactants such as fluorotelomers, perfluorooctanoic acid, or perfluorooctanesulfonic acid.

AdTech successfully removes the hydrocarbons and any debris, etc. from collected wastewater using traditional coalescing and separation processes. It then extracts the remaining contaminants via a series of filters coated with the company’s unique filtration media. The treated water is then suitable for re-use in any number of applications, including irrigation.

As far as AdTech is aware, it is the only company in Australia capable of treating this particular contaminated wastewater to this level. A recent sample returned a COD reading of only 5mg/L.

AdTech also specialises in treating aviation wastewater from other sources including general airfield operations such as oil/water separators and interceptors, as well as Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations including:

• Corrosion control from de-paint/repaint operations
• Jet engine reconditioning in Engine Business Units
• Electroplating; and
• Non-Destructive Investigative operations (NDI)

In recognition of this new business focus, AdTech has launched a brand new web site at http://www.adtechenviro.com/ along with a new blog (Slipstream) at http://adtechenviro.wordpress.com/

The company is now actively seeking new clients in both military and civil aviation sectors, (whether commercial, business and/or general).

US associate commissions washwater treatment plant at LAX

AdTech’s US associate, Enviremedial Services Inc.,
has recently installed and commissioned a new, stand alone, aircraft washwater recycling plant to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

This plant, housed in a stand alone purpose built container, consists of a series of clarifiers and filters (including the proprietary Gigasorber) that enable over 90% of the water used to wash down aircraft to be safely recycled. The key to the Gigasorber technology is the unique MSX filtration/adsorption media that not only captures fine solids but also adsorbs dissolved contaminants from solution. This allows any post filtration equipment (such as UV sterilisation) to work at optimum levels. more...
